I woke up last Sunday morning to two sports stories that seemed oddly related. The first concerned the women’s soccer team being defeated by Sweden. The second concerned Simone Biles’ return to competitive gymnastics and her winning a meet in Illinois. She might be preparing for another Olympics, but with a different outlook this time.

I have been thinking about starting a company.

In April 2022, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced $189 million for 154 Next Level broadband expansion projects, this coming atop a $100 million program in 2019. But on a helicopter flight coming back from Evansville in late June, there was yet another high-five moment. The governor had received word from U.S. Commerce Sec. Gina Raimondo that Indiana would be receiving $868 million to extend high-speed internet to the proverbial “last mile.”

We often hear that words have power, and that may be no truer than when the word “Bingo!” is yelled out in a crowd.

In my line of work, it is helpful to look back from time to time and assess one’s mistakes. So, I spent a couple hours perusing my old columns to see what I might wish to rewrite considering what I now know. It is important to be forthright about analytical errors so that we can draw lessons from them. Three issues really stuck out to me.
