Boys golf

Woodmen squeak past Cougars

Kalen Rowland continued his recent hot streak with a 36, leading Greenwood to a 175-181 win over Greenwood Christian on Thursday. Davis Arthur shot a 44 for the Woodmen, followed by Barden Chase (47) and Jahlen Burton (48). Noah Reed carded a 40 and Parker Satre a 43 for the Cougars.

Girls tennis

Trojans shut out Quakers

No. 14 Center Grove had little difficulty with Plainfield en route to a 5-0 victory on Thursday. Lauren Dick, Sloane Small and Val Arriz swept the singles points, dropping just three games between them. The Trojans’ No. 1 doubles team of Ava Beecher and Anna Runkle won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 duo of Kenna Harbin and Ashley Embrey.

The Trojans also defeated Perry Meridian on Friday, 5-0, with the same lineup minus Emerson Donaldson winning at No. 3 singles.

Braves defeat Cardinals

Indian Creek took both doubles points on the way to a 4-1 win over Southport. Lanie Swanson and Lexi Sichting won at first doubles for the Braves (5-1), while the No. 2 team of Rhiannon Cravens and Eliza Tharpe also came out on top. Lauren Foster and Gracie Werden picked up wins at first and third singles, respectively.

Warriors top Pioneers

Whiteland earned a 4-1 road win at Mooresville on Thursday. Rowen Starns and Taylor Darnell were victorious at second and third singles for the Warriors (2-6), Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles and Namjeet Kaur and Karley Hoagland did the same at No. 2.

Baseball

Warriors throttle Shelbyville

Whiteland jumped out to an early seven-run lead and beat Shelbyville, 8-2, on Friday. Maalik Perkins, Peyton Dickens, Drew Helton and Blake Riddle each drove in two runs for the Warriors (7-3).

Edinburgh edged in league tilt

North Decatur clawed back from a two-run deficit to pull out an 8-6 victory at Edinburgh on Thursday. Jared Myers had three doubles and three RBIs to lead the Lancers (3-4-1, 0-3 Mid-Hoosier), while Avynn Whitaker scored a pair of runs.

Softball

Center Grove edges Orioles

Riley Fuhr and Riley Henson combined to allow just four hits as Class 4A No. 8 Center Grove got past Avon on Thursday, 3-1. Sydney Herrmann hit a home run for the Trojans (8-4), with Brynn Meyer and Ava Krupa also driving in runs.

Lancers come up short

Lexi Riley doubled and drove in three runs, but Edinburgh couldn’t match North Decatur’s firepower in a 17-5 loss. The Lancers fall to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference.

Grizzly Cubs fall to Golden Bears

Franklin lost to Shelbyville, 5-1. Adeline Blackwell scored the lone run for the Grizzly Cubs (5-5).

Grizzly Cubs prevail in five

Franklin rallied from a set down twice to earn a 23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-23, 15-13 win over Southport on Thursday. Zach Newton had 21 kills and Jacob Miller 19 for the Grizzly Cubs (18-5), while Charlie Sanders had 49 assists.
