Grizzly Cubs edged by Pioneers

Franklin nearly pulled off an upset of Class 4A No. 5 Mooresville on Wednesday, taking a 6-5 loss. Aubrey Leugers and Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom both hit home runs for the Grizzly Cubs.

Woodmen top Falcons

Greenwood scored three seventh-inning runs to earn an 8-5 triumph at Perry Meridian. Nevaeh Elliott and Gracelyn Bowles each drove in a pair of runs for the Woodmen.

Center Grove loses to New Pal

Class 4A No. 9 Center Grove tried to come back from a big early deficit but came up shy in a 14-9 setback against No. 5 New Palestine. Riley Janda and Sydney Herrmann each had two hits and three RBIs for the Trojans.

Errors plague Whiteland in loss

Seven miscues in the field were too much for Whiteland to overcome in a 12-loss at Martinsville. Maddy Myers had two hits and an RBI in a losing effort for the Warriors.

Warriors shut down Artesians

Peyton Dickens struck out 15 Martinsville batters, tossing a six-hitter as Whiteland posted a 5-1 win at Martinsville on Wednesday. Drew Helton was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two steals and an RBI for the Warriors, while Maalik Perkins hit an RBI triple and scored twice.

Girls tennis

Trojans knock off Bull Dogs

A doubles sweep helped No. 15 Center Grove eke out a 3-2 victory over sixth-ranked Columbus North on Wednesday. Ava Beecher and Lauren Dick were straight-set winners in the No. 1 spot, with Kenna Harbin and Anna Runkle doing the same at No. 2. Emerson Donaldson was victorious at third singles for the Trojans.

Braves shut out Artesians

Indian Creek beat Martinsville, 5-0, with all five matches ending in straight sets. Lauren Foster, Reese Tunell and Gracie Werden swept the singles points for the Braves (7-2), who also got a win from Lexi Sichting and Lanie Swanson at first doubles and another from Rhiannon Cravens and Raegan Weddle in the second position.

Whiteland falls to Park Tudor

No. 12 Park Tudor was too much for Whiteland in a 5-0 shutout. The Warriors dropped to 4-9 on the season with the loss.

Grizzly Cubs rout Pirates

Franklin swept its dual meet against visiting Greensburg on Wednesday, with the 17th-ranked girls taking a 92.5-29.5 victory and the boys winning by an 81-42 score. The Grizzly Cub girls won all three relay events and got first-place efforts from Addie Martin (100, high jump and pole vault), Lauren Klem (200 and 400), Aubrey Runyon (100 and 300 hurdles), Kathleen Lacy (800 and 1,600) and Hailey Stewart (long jump). J.D. Sever was first in the 400-meter dash and the 110 hurdles for the boys, who also swept all three relays and got individual wins from Jackson Frazier (100), Liam Fennig (800), Isaiah Tunis (1,600) and Cooper Wienhorst (long jump).

Greenwood wins at Southport

Davis Arthur’s 37 led Greenwood to a 160-185 victory over Southport at Southern Dunes on Wednesday. Jahlen Burton, Kalen Rowland and Cruse Glidden each added a 41 for the Woodmen.

Warriors come up short

Whiteland was defeated by Triton Central on Wednesday, 185-194. Will Smith had a 47 to lead the Warriors.
