Johnson County Community Foundation seeks entries for Color the County mural

The Johnson County Community Foundation is now accepting entries for this summer’s Color the County Mural Program.

Color the County improves the cultural fabric of the community through public art. This year, a mural is planned at Tom’s Barbershop, 338 Market Plaza, in Greenwood, JCCF announced Tuesday.

With the announcement of the location, the foundation is now looking for local artists, emerging artists, art students and creative community members interested in submitting mural designs for this year’s competition. No previous experience is necessary, foundation officials say.

JCCF is seeking one mural design and will award $1200 for the winning design, along with mural materials and the instruction needed to prepare for an outdoor mural installation. The selected winner will be responsible for coordinating efforts with the foundation to complete the community mural this summer, including mural prep work leading to the community painting day, followed by mural touch-ups and completion afterward.

Designs have to be submitted no later than 4 p.m. May 17. There is no entry fee, but people can make a donation to JCCF’s Arts and Culture Fund if they desire.

Each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form available at jccf.org/mural-program. Submissions can be hand-delivered, mailed or emailed:

  • Hard copies: Attention: Mural Design, Johnson County Community Foundation, 398 South Main St. / P.O. Box 217, Franklin, IN 46131
  • Digital copies: Email Joe Morris at [email protected]

Information about the program, design criteria and more can be found at jccf.org/mural-program.

As per tradition, there will be a summer Community Painting Day where residents of all ages will help us bring the mural to life. Painting supplies and refreshments will be provided.
