Lloyd “Bud” Wells Monroe

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Lloyd Wells “Bud” Monroe, who passed peacefully at home April 26, 2024.

Bud was born March 19, 1933 in Madison, Indiana to John and Sophia (Wells) Monroe. He married his love, Sharon (Gregory) Monroe on December 10, 1960. She preceded him in death in 2021. They celebrated nearly sixty-one years of marriage.

Bud attended New Washington High School and Indiana University. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He began his career of thirty-three years with the Indiana State Police in 1955 and retired as a Major during which time he graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Upon retirement from the Indiana State Police, Bud, being an avid dog lover, became owner of Dog Guard Out-of-Sight Fencing of Central Indiana.

He was a member of the New Washington Masonic Lodge, the Murat Shrine and the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. He also was a longtime member of the Franklin Lions Club. He enjoyed boating, a love he passed on to his daughters; fishing trips with buddies and participating yearly in the Great American Race. Bud was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.

Bud and Sharon raised four daughters, Terry Monroe, Leigh Henderson, Bobbi (Pat) Henn and Patty (Jake) Meade; eight grandchildren, Deryck (Mandy) Ramey, Matthew Monroe, Jay and Lane Henderson, Dominic (Monica) and Noah Henn, Evan Meade and Claire (Tyler) Hamilton and great-grandchildren, Landon Compton and Eleanor and Brooks Ramey.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife Sharon, and sisters, Margaret Hughes and Betty Jo James.

Deacon David Henn will conduct a celebration of Bud’s life on Thursday, May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, May 1st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, May 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Second Mt. Pleasant Cemetery where Bud will be reunited with his wife, Sharon.
