College notebook: Bonser wins shot put at RedHawk Invitational

University of Indianapolis junior Emily Bonser, a Greenwood graduate, won the shot put and took third in the hammer throw at the RedHawk Invitational track and field meet. Another former Woodmen athlete, Dylan Mayhew, finished fifth in the men’s hammer throw.

Greenwood

UIndy senior catcher Lexy Rees singled twice, stole a base and drove in two runs in the softball team’s 8-2 victory over Quincy. She singled and drove in a run in the Greyhounds’ 5-2 win over Illinois-Springfield.

Marian sophomore outfielder Anna Pritchett singled in the Knights’ 5-2 defeat of Taylor.

Center Grove

Air Force sophomore wrestler Drake Buchanan achieved the team’s highest grade-point average with a 3.95, earning the program’s Scholar Athlete Award.

Southern Indiana softball won two of three games against visiting Tennessee State, with senior first baseman Lexi Fair delivering a total of four hits and scoring three of her team’s runs.

Senior third baseman Kaci Finchum singled, doubled and stole a base in Mount St. Joseph’s 5-1 softball victory over visiting Rose-Hulman. She also singled and scored a run in a 3-1 win over Ohio Northern.

Franklin College senior catcher Adam Taylor singled in the baseball squad’s 14-4 loss to Transylvania. He scored one of the Grizzlies’ runs in a 14-7 loss to DePauw, contributed a two-run double in a 10-9 win over the Tigers and had two hits in FC’s 13-4 home loss to Webster.

Asa Christie pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief as the IU Kokomo baseball team lost to Shawnee State, 3-1.

Missouri freshman shortstop Drew Culbertson stole a base and scored two runs in the team’s 13-1 victory over Lindenwood. He scored one of the Tigers’ runs in a 3-2 loss at Tennessee.

Alabama senior second baseman Bryce Eblin doubled and scored a run in the baseball team’s 10-3 victory at Mississippi.

Sophomore shortstop Tyler Cerny finished 5 of 13 at the plate, including a double and home run, as the Indiana baseball team swept its three-game series against visiting Rutgers.

Indiana Wesleyan baseball lost at Spring Arbor, 3-0, with senior pitcher Drue Young taking the loss after working seven innings, allowing nine hits and striking out eight batters.

Noah Gillard tied for the 17th spot individually to help IU men’s golf place sixth at the Big 10 Championships. Gillard fired scores of 74, 79 and 74 for a 17-over-par total.

Indiana Wesleyan freshman Sage Parsetich produced scores of 75, 77 and 80 to help the Wildcats finish second at the Crossroads League Championship.

Franklin

Franklin College senior Eli Cochrane ran on the second-place 4×400 relay at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet.

Taylor junior golfer Ellie Beavins carded scores of 80, 78 and 77 to help the Wildcats place third at the Crossroads League Championship.

Butler men’s golf placed second in the Big East Conference tournament, with junior Damon Dickey tying for 36th individually with scores of 84, 76 and 69.

Purdue Fort Wayne third baseman Luke Miles singled in the baseball team’s 5-1 loss at Wright State, then singled, stole a base and scored two runs in an 11-4 loss.

Whiteland

Mount St. Joseph junior outfielder Macy Cornelius singled, scored and stole two bases in the softball team’s 7-0 shutout of visiting Rose-Hulman. The Lions won the second game of the doubleheader, 5-1, with Cornelius hitting a single and stealing a base. In a 3-1 win over Ohio Northern, she singled and stole a base.

Trine sophomore Debbie Hill helped her squad pull off doubleheader sweeps at Olivet and Hope, collecting four hits and scoring four runs. In a 10-1 triumph at Hope, she pitched a complete game five-hitter in which she struck out 11 batters.

Brooklyn Taylor placed 20th in the javelin throw, 16th in the discus and 21st in the hammer throw as Ball State women’s track and field competed in the Music City Challenge. Lipscomb high jumper Bella Jackson cleared 5 feet, 7 inches to finish fourth.
