Carolyn McClain

Carolyn “Kay” (Henson) McClain, age 72, passed away Friday morning, April 11, 2014, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Morgantown.

Kay was born in Redwood, Okla., on Dec. 2, 1941, to the late Archie B. and Juanita V. (White) Henson. She was a 1959 graduate of Aldine High School in Houston, Texas, and went on receive a certification in court reporting. Kay married the Rev. Gene McClain on Jan. 17, 1972, in Houston, Texas. He survives after 42 loving years.

Other survivors include her sister, Wanda June (husband, Bill) Hogan of Granbury, Texas; nephew, Lance Hogan of Shreveport, La.; nieces, Kim (husband, Clay) Noren of Buda, Texas, and Lisa (husband, Bruce) Barlean of Ferndale, Wash.; grandniece, Nicole Noren and grandnephew, Logan Noren, who lovingly called her “GranKay.”

Kay was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Henson.

Kay retired in January of 2009 as the law librarian for the Indiana State Attorney General’s Office in Indianapolis after 37 years. Prior to that, she worked as a school psychologist for the Houston Independent School District in Texas. Kay was also a devoted pastor’s wife who spoke at many American Evangelical Christian Conferences for Women.

She was a member of the Southside Church of Nazarene in Indianapolis and a former member of the Morgantown, Shelbyville and Freeport Assembly of God Churches, where her husband was the pastor.

The Rev. Ray McCrary will conduct a funeral service at noon Friday at Indianapolis Southside Church of the Nazarene, 2447 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown, and from 11 a.m. until noon at the church on Friday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Kay to the Indianapolis Southside Church of the Nazarene, 2447 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
