Grizzlies’ rally falls short

DELAWARE, Ohio

The Franklin College women’s basketball team cut a 13-point second-half deficit to three points, but it was not enough Tuesday night in a 77-62 loss at Ohio Wesleyan University to open a holiday tournament.

Franklin (5-3) went on a 10-2 run during a four-minute stretch to trail 65-62 with 3:09 remaining. However, tournament-host Ohio Wesleyan (5-5) withstood the charge to score the final 12 points of the contest.

The Battling Bishops opened the game on a 10-2 run. The Grizzlies responded in the first half to take a 29-27 lead following a layup from freshman Kelsey Smith with 5:33 left.

Ohio Wesleyan led 35-33 at halftime and took a 48-39 lead after a pair of free throws from Taylor Dickson at the 14:33 mark.

Franklin had four double-figure scorers, led by sophomore Mandy Fisher with 12 points. Junior Katie Brewer added 11 points. Senior Nichole Thompson and sophomore Kayle Comer each chipped in 10 points.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Sarah McQuade scored a game-high 17 points to pace four double-digit scorers.

Franklin closes out the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament against York College (Pa.) today at 1 p.m.
