Gary David Wathen

Gary David Wathen, 57, of Nineveh, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Gary was born to the late Donald Earl and Pearl Bernice (Clements) Wathen in Beech Grove.

He married the love of his life, Christine Berger, on June 12, 1982, in Jasper.

Gary was a 1976 graduate of Loogootee High School. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard for 31 years and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. After 27 years of employment, Gary retired in 2013 from CSMS No. 2 at Camp Atterbury. Gary deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 as a member of OMLT No. 1.

He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin and American Legion Post 233 in Edinburgh.

Gary is survived by his wife, Chris; four children, Beth (Torrance) McClellan of Indianapolis, Kelli (Bob) Clarke of Camby, Andrew (Tifani) Wathen of Nineveh and Natalie Wathen of St. Louis; grandchildren, Yasmin and Emory McClellan, Brice Thompson, and Morgan and Cameron Wathen; two stepgrandchildren, Jessica and Jason Clarke; sisters, Betty (Jim) Carroll of Loogootee and Monica Cothern of Vincennes; and brothers, Kenny (Marie) Wathen of St. Anthony, Mark (Elaine) Wathen of Loogootee and Shane (Sandy) Stuckey of Jasper.

Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Bateman.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. A full military burial will be at 5 p.m. at St. Martin Cemetery in Whitfield, south of Loogootee.
