Cora Bailey Metcalf

Cora Bailey Metcalf, 99, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin. She was a resident of Whiteland and a former resident of LaPorte.

She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Starke County, the daughter of Harry Leslie Bailey and Nora Eveline (Melvin) Bailey.

Cora had worked 27½ years for Howmet, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaPorte, a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star, LaPorte Chapter No. 280, and a high worthy priestess of WSI Covenant Shrine and had been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

On July 31, 1937, in Michigan City, she married Chester Metcalf, who preceded her in death Sept. 10, 2003.

Her first marriage was in 1932 in Crown Point to Clarence Clauson, who preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1935.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Robert) Dhondt of Greenwood; two sons, Arthur (Jan) Clauson of Dallas and Wayne (Linda) Metcalf of Bridgeton, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lula Lounsberry of Michigan.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; second husband, Chester Metcalf, first husband, Clarence Clauson; five brothers, Samuel, Russell, Allen, Harry and Howard; and five sisters, Esther, Edna, Leah, Dorothy and Irene.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service time Friday. A life celebration will be held at noon Friday at Haverstock Funeral Home in LaPorte, with a grandson, David Clauson, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte.
