Franklin coach Reese steps down after 4 seasons

Following a tumultuous season that saw his team win just one game for the second year in a row, Franklin football coach Adam Reese has submitted his resignation.

The coaching vacancy will become official pending school board approval later this month.

Reese, who will continue in his position as the high school’s dean of students, said he believes that his stepping down was in everyone’s best interests.

“It was obviously a tough decision,” he stated, “but I just felt this was what’s best for the program, and for myself as well.”

Reese posted a 10-30 record in his four seasons with the Grizzly Cubs. The team posted a 5-5 mark in 2013 and went 3-7 in 2014 before struggling through back-to-back 1-9 campaigns.

This past season was particularly tough — quarterback Jake Moore left the team in midseason — but Reese was proud of how his players, particularly the upperclassmen, handled the adversity.

“I’m very proud of the character of our players,” he stated.

Franklin athletics director John Regas praised Reese for his efforts over the past four seasons — efforts that included laying a foundation for the future of the program.

“One of coach Reese’s greatest accomplishments, from my view, was his leadership in recruiting community members and establishing the new Franklin Youth Football League,” Regas said. “The youth football league, along with our middle school program, will be a focus for us as we relaunch our football program this coming season.”

Reese has not ruled out any future involvement in football, whether at Franklin or elsewhere, but does not anticipate taking on any role in the immediate future.
