Smokey Row Road Kroger opens today

A new grocery store opens today at a long undeveloped Center Grove area intersection.

Kroger built a new $22 million store at the intersection of Smokey Row Road and State Road 135, sparking development of a shopping center next door. For years, the intersection was mostly undeveloped.

The store, located at 5961 N. State Road 135, opens at 8 a.m. today.

The 100,000-square-foot store will offer a clinic, a coffee shop, an expanded selection of beer, wine and liquor and a specialty cheese shop and a kitchen section with cooking utensils and dinnerware, according to a news release from Kroger.

Construction began on the store earlier this year, along with work to the nearby intersection, including adding turn lanes for traffic heading into the store.

Kroger also recently opened a Kroger Marketplace store on U.S. 31 in Franklin, and is planning to remodel the Kroger store off U.S. 31 in Greenwood. The projects are part of a $465 million investment by Kroger in central Indiana stores from 2014-17.
