Letter: Thanks for warnings on scam phone calls

To the editor:

I recently sent a comment praising your detailed warnings about phone scams that target Johnson County residents.

Recently I received a scam phone call with exactly the same “arrest” details as the story “Woman loses $2,000 in scam,” on Page A5 in the Nov. 7 Daily Journal.

The caller was a “court representative” calling about “my granddaughter.” He said she was in jail.

The amount of bail I needed to send the court was $6,000. I knew the call was a fraud.

Thanks to all your warnings, I told him that I would ask the Johnson County sheriff to please confirm that “my granddaughter” was in jail in Tennessee. As soon as I said sheriff, the scammer ended the call.

When I called our sheriff’s office to report the call, the person who answered said I was their second caller about that scam.

Thank you for all the warnings to your readers about those fraudulent calls.
