Letter: Trump ignorant on most major issues

To the editor:

Sen. Mitch McConnell just issued a call for unity now the election is over. That is ironic considering how he responded to that same call when Obama was elected. Instead of unity, he was leader of the Republican effort to block everything that Obama supported, even bipartisan legislation proposed by other Republicans.

That resulted in eight years of obstruction and a “do nothing” Congress. We are all angry at that stalemate. That anger, combined with the stupidity of blaming the wrong person and party, has resulted in the election of an incompetent ignoramus.

Donald Trump may be street smart but he is ignorant on every major issue facing this country — climate change, global economics, technology, diplomatic and defense strategy, health care and the economics and sociology of immigration.

What is even more scary is the pooled ignorance of the conservative legislators on those same issues. There will be no check-and-balance which is the heart of the Constitution. No amount of sugar-coating by Mike Pence or others can cover over the ignorance or the imbalance.

“Governing from the gut” usually is accompanied by “constipation of the mind” and “diarrhea of the mouth.” Trump supporters should not be surprised at what we actually get considering the lack of integrity, civility and intelligence of Trump and his inner circle. Instead of a drained swamp we may be overwhelmed by alligators.
