Home damaged in early morning fire

A Franklin home was damaged, but no one was hurt, after an early morning fire on Friday.

A resident at a home on the 1000 block of Jefferson Street called 911 at about 6 a.m. to report that she woke up to her house full of smoke.

Firefighters from all three Franklin stations responded to the fire, which was extinguished in about 10 minutes, Franklin Fire Chief Daniel McElyea said.

The fire was in a crawl space, and the home suffered major damage to the floor joists, he said.

Firefighters spent about an hour checking the crawl space for hot spots to make sure the fire hadn’t spread, McElyea said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, he said.
