Indian Creek wins 3rd straight Monrovia tourney

Indian Creek boys basketball continued its dominance at the Monrovia Holiday Classic, defeating Southwestern (Shelby) in Friday’s championship game.

The 60-51 victory means the Braves now have won all three Classics.

“We had a really good second quarter defensively, holding them to four points,” said Indian Creek coach Derek Perry, whose squad is now 6-3. “I thought we played hard. Southwestern is a scrappy team.

“Playing three games in two days, it’s tough. But it’s great to get back on a winning streak.”

Senior forward Bryce Hogue led a balanced Braves attack with 19 points. Senior guard Tim Abel came through with 13, while junior point guard Jared DeHart and sophomore swingman Trevor Ankney provided 11 points each.

Indian Creek finished 14 of 17 from the free-throw line.

Indian Creek (6-3) after playing its first nine games on the road, Indian Creek (6-3) finally plays at home when it hosts Brown County on Jan. 7.

In Friday afternoon’s fifth-place game, Greenwood Christian Academy came up short against Bethesda Christian 55-51.

Sophomore guard Quentin Steele drained four 3-pointers in leading the Cougars (1-7) with 24 points. Payton Modlin added eight points for Greenwood Christian, which plays Friday night at Attucks and Jan. 7 at Shortridge.
