Man arrested after stealing car, running from police

A man was arrested at a Greenwood truck stop after police said he stole a car in Indianapolis and attempted to flee from officers.

William May, 30, who told police he is homeless, was arrested on charges of auto theft, resisting an officer, battery on a public safety official and two warrants.

May was found at a truck stop near Interstate 65 and Main Street, after an officer received a tip about a stolen vehicle being there. When the officer arrived, May was in the vehicle. While the officer was interviewing May, May pushed the officer and ran away, the report said.

A police dog was brought to the scene. May was found in an empty camper parked at the truck stop. He refused to unlock the camper or come out until police were about to pry the door open, the report said.

May was arrested and taken to Johnson County jail. He was held on $3,200 bond.
