County home sales, prices up last month

Homes sales were up last month in Johnson County, along with sales prices.

On average, home buyers in the county spent just over $200,000 on a house in 2017, compared to an average price of about $185,000 in 2016, an increase of about 8 percent. The average home price for all of central Indiana has risen by nearly 6 percent from $189,000 to $200,000, through December, according to a news release.

The amount of homes sold in December this year was up 10 percent from December 2016, according to data from F.C. Tucker Co., an Indianapolis area real estate firm.

However, home sales overall were down less than 1 percent for all of 2017.

In central Indiana, homes sales were up 7 percent in December and 4 percent for the year.

The number of homes available for sale has also continued to drop. In Johnson County, potential home buyers had 22 percent fewer homes to choose from compared to the same time last year, the news release said.

Johnson County homes were the fastest selling ones in the central Indiana market, with an average list time of 55 days, the release said.
