Bomb squad called to Center Grove

The county bomb squad was called to the Center Grove area this weekend when a resident saw a person drop a container on a curb and drive away quickly.

A cell phone and charging cord were in water in the container, and there was no threat, but the matter had to be investigated due to the suspicious behavior.

A resident called the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office just after 4 p.m. Friday when he saw a man leave a jug on a curb in a neighborhood off Paddock and Olive Branch roads in the Center Grove area. A deputy searched for the man based on the description of the person and his vehicle that the resident provided, but he could not be found, the sheriff’s office report said.

The county’s hazardous device team was called, and after making sure there were no dangers, they discovered the container was a cat litter jug that had been filled with water and a cell phone, charging cord and wall cube were inside. It could not be determined why the items were disposed of this way, the report said.
