Man arrested after bullet strikes house

A Greenwood man was arrested after telling police he accidentally shot a gun, sending a bullet through his neighbor’s house Thursday evening.

James D. Russell, 46, was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness.

Police responded to the first block of Georgetown Road about 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a shot being fired. A resident told police that a single bullet had struck the south side of the home, a Greenwood Police Department said.

Officers found a matching bullet hole in the garage of an adjacent home. The homeowner, Russell, initially denied knowing how the hole got there, but later told police the gun had accidentally discharged, the report said.

Police confiscated four guns from the property, the report said.

Russell, 317 Georgetown Road, was taken to Community Hospital South for evaluation, then arrested and taken to Johnson County jail on $3,300 bond.
