Clerk attacked during robbery

A robber attacked a store clerk, pointing a gun at her, shoving her to the ground and kicking her several times, while stealing thousands of dollars from a New Whiteland gas station.

The robbery happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Monday at the Circle K gas station at U.S. 31 and Tracy Road. The cashier called 911 after the robber left, and police found her hiding in the storage closet, according to the New Whiteland Police Department report. She was upset, and told police that her head and sides hurt, the report said.

She was checked by medics but did not go to the hospital.

Police are investigating. No one has been arrested.

A man wearing a mask and a hoodie entered the Circle K gas station at the shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday and pointed a gun at the clerk, pushed her to the ground and demanded that she open the safe, the report said.

The man had the clerk fill a cigarette carton box with cash from the safe and the register. The suspect had the clerk lay face down on the ground, and after kicking her, he left. The clerk stayed on the ground for several minutes because she was scared, and then called 911, the report said.

A manager told police that more than $4,000 in cash had been stolen, the report said.

Police collected security camera footage and other evidence from the gas station, the report said.

The gas station had previously been robbed in 2013, when a man stole cash and forced a customer to drive him to Indianapolis at gunpoint.
