Police looking for two who fled from crash

Police are looking for two people who fled from a stolen vehicle that was involved in a pursuit and crash on Wednesday morning.

Officers found a loaded shotgun, drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle after the suspects ran from it, Prince’s Lakes Town Marshal Greg Southers said.

The public was asked to call police if they see the suspects coming out of the woods or asking for a ride in the Prince’s Lakes area in the hours after the incident.

Southers saw a black sports utility vehicle parked in front of a gas station in Nineveh about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday. The driver’s side window was broken, with some of the glass fragments still sticking out of the window, giving suspicion that the vehicle might have been stolen.

Southers followed the SUV south on Nineveh Road, but when he attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped up, weaving in and out of traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road, Southers said.

Once the SUV crossed into Brown County, it was involved in an accident when it sideswiped another vehicle. Two people ran from the SUV. The driver of the vehicle that was struck declined to be taken to the hospital, Southers said.

Police dogs tracked the suspects to a heavily wooded area. Officers from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Bargersville Police Department and the Trafalgar Police Department assisted in the search, Southers said. They were last seen on Beech Tree Road in Brown County, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle had been reported stolen in Indianapolis, Southers said. Anyone with information can contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 317-346-4654.
