Purdue Extension offers rainscaping workshop

Purdue Extension Johnson County is offering a two-day workshop focused on rainscaping — the practice of designing landscape features to retain stormwater.

The workshops will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 15 and 16 at the extension office, 484 N. Morton St., Franklin. Registration is $70 for two days of instruction, lunches and classroom materials.

Organizers will teach participants about the concepts of rainscaping, how to select and analyze sites and what plants to select to create your own rain garden.

The group will tour local rain gardens to get a sense of what they look like and how they function, and people will get to create rainscaping features themselves at the extension office.

The workshop is open to the public. For more information, go to edustore.purdue.edu or call (765) 494-6794.
