Two shot in weekend fight in Trafalgar

A man shot his wife and his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend after a dispute in Trafalgar this weekend.

Kevin Farley, 38, Trafalgar, was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness, a level 6 felony, after the incident. He said he was the shooter, but told investigators he was defending himself, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Farley’s wife, Casey Farley, and another man, Jared Francis, were shot during the incident. They were taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital by helicopter and were in surgery early Saturday morning. An update on their conditions was not available.

The shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. Friday at 295 S. Raymond Ave. in Trafalgar.

The incident started when 24-year-old Lyndsay Scott of Trafalgar became upset that her ex-boyfriend, Kevin Farley, was in her apartment parking lot on Friday night because she felt he was stalking her, the sheriff’s office report said. She told her boyfriend, Francis, who came outside and confronted Kevin Farley.

Kevin Farley sped away from the area, Scott told investigators.

So she and Francis drove by the Raymond Avenue home to confront Kevin Farley, but he didn’t answer his door. When they drove around the block again, Kevin Farley was outside and motioned for them, as though he was taunting Francis, Scott told investigators.

Francis confronted Kevin Farley, who had a weapon, the report said. Francis grabbed the weapon and punched Farley in the face, and the shotgun was fired. Francis was shot in the abdomen, and the same shot also hit Farley’s wife, Casey Farley, in the abdomen, the report said.

Investigators were told Casey Farley was near Francis, possibly trying to break up the argument between the men, the report said.

A neighbor called 911, and Casey Farley and Francis were laying in the driveway when police and medics arrived.

Kevin Farley, whose address was listed in jail records as 112 S. Raymond Ave., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper will review the case and decide what, if any, charges to file.
