Greater Greenwood Band offering jazz and pops concert

Music lovers can take in a concert by local musicians while enjoying the sunshine in the park.

Greater Greenwood Community Band is conducting an outdoor jazz and pops concert at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Greenwood Amphitheater in Surina Square Park.

The 80 person band will perform a classic collection of symphonic jazz and pops music packed.

Featuring special guests and vocalists, concert selections include “Harlem Nocturne,” “A Salute to American Jazz,” “Indiana,” “A Scott Joplin Retrospective,” “Buenaventura,” “Embraceable You,” “But Not For Me,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” and “Star Dust.”

Under the direction of Randy Greenwell and Ora Pemberton, Greater Greenwood Community Band is a not-for-profit band of volunteer musicians celebrating its 25th year of bringing concert band music to Greenwood. The group’s new director, Randy Greenwell is freshly retired from Lawrence Central High School and was recently inducted into the Bands of America’s “Hall of Fame.”

Refreshments will be provided.

Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair to the free event.
