Warriors wrap up league crown

Riley McMahon pitched a three-hit shutout, helping Whiteland wrap up the outright Mid-State Conference title with a 5-0 victory over Martinsville on Wednesday.

Nick Carrizales was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and one driven in to pace the Warriors (15-10, 9-3).

Grizzly Cubs edge Hawks

First-inning RBIs from Tyce Miller and Luke Miles held up as Franklin held off Decatur Central, 2-1, on Wednesday.

Miles and Alec MacLennan split the pitching duties for the Grizzly Cubs (11-12, 6-6 Mid-State), scattering seven hits.

Softball

Grizzly Cubs blank Woodmen

Rilee King pitched a four-hitter, striking out three without a walk, as Franklin edged Greenwood 1-0, on Wednesday. The Woodmen had won by the same score a night earlier.

Baylee Parker scored the game’s lone run on an Emma Rutan single for the Grizzly Cubs (8-13).

Trojans handle Panthers

Piper Belden had four hits and Jordyn Rudd homered for the third straight game as Class 4A No. 1 Center Grove rolled to an 11-1 victory over Bloomington South on Wednesday.

Abby Herbst hit two doubles and also earned the pitching win for the Trojans (25-1), striking out nine and giving up just three hits.

Girls tennis

Lancers fall in sectional opener

Edinburgh’s season came to an end Wednesday with a 5-0 loss to Brown County in the opening round of the Columbus East Sectional. The Lancers finish with a 2-14 record.

Miscellany

Greenwood seniors sign with colleges

Several senior student-athletes at Greenwood signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level.

Brandon Rosado and R.J. Meyers, who helped lead the Woodmen to a regional title in football, will play this coming fall at Anderson and Franklin College, respectively.

Also signing were Brandon Albin (UIndy track and cross country), Maddie Bright (Franklin College women’s tennis), Justin Johnson (Hanover men’s track), Braydon Kincaid (Trine men’s basketball), Jacob Schrader (Marian wrestling) and Brody Tisdale (Frontier Community College baseball)
