Letter: More empty posturing among 2nd amendment chants

To the editor:

Our communities are awash with a sea of guns and people who are careless of how they are kept. Kids don’t need to buy them — they can get them from parents, a relative or a friend’s house when nobody is looking. We will have more empty promises to do something, more political posturing and chest thumping, and the elephant will still be in the room.

We have taken a 21st-century society and turned it into a 19th century cartoon of the Old West and Mountain Men. Testosterone cowboys and their female counterparts wave their pistols and assault rifles and drone, “Second amendment, second amendment,” while the law and rest of society stand and wring their hands.

It is a disgusting scenario of supposedly responsible citizens of a democratic country who fail to put the brakes on white nationalists and other societal jerks.
