Southside hospital offering series for seniors
Franciscan Senior Promise, 8778 Madison Ave., Indianapolis, will host classes to help senior citizens understand veteran’s benefits, depression, elder care laws and dementia.
Classes are offered this summer.
Lunch and Learn, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 12. Participants will be offered tips on how to tackle talks on important subjects such as benefits for veterans and their spouses, advance care directives and planning funerals and memorial services.
Depression and suicide warning signs, 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 15. Behavioral experts will be on hand to discuss those warning signs indicating depression and what to do if you are concerned about a loved one.
Elder care law, 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 20. Participants will get the answers about estate planning (trusts, wills, power-of-attorney, appointing health care representatives and living wills), guardianship and planning and application for Medicaid and veterans’ benefits.
Dementia Live!, 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 22. This program is based on experimental learning that stimulates cognitive and sensory impairment and provides a real-life simulation of what it is like to experience and live with dementia. Participants will gain greater awareness and understanding of the constant struggles faced by those with dementia as they go about their daily lives. Experts will explain how greater understanding of the disorder leads to more sensitive and effective care-partnering.
Seminar on hip and knee pain planned
People struggling with hip and knee pain can attend a seminar meant to help them.
A free seminar focused on arthritis and hip and knee replacement procedures will be at 6 p.m. June 6 at The Social of Greenwood, 550 Polk St, Greenwood. The event is hosted by Franciscan Health.
Dr. Robert Malinzak will explain the latest procedures in joint replacement and arthritis treatments. He is a surgeon with Franciscan Physician Network Joint Replacement Surgeons, the practice group affiliated with the Center for Hip & Knee Surgery at Franciscan Health Mooresville.
