Men arrested after taking items from mall kiosk

Two men were arrested after police said they attempted to steal items from a kiosk and hit a store clerk in the middle of the Greenwood Park Mall on Thursday morning.

Brandon Mefford, 18, of Indianapolis, and Kyle Woodrum, 18, of Camby, were arrested on a charge of robbery. Mefford was also arrested on charges of intimidation, battery, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.

An employee at a phone case kiosk at the Greenwood Park Mall told police that Woodrum pocketed a phone case worth $25 around 11 a.m. Thursday. When the employee confronted Woodrum, the employee said he was shoved by Woodrum and punched by Mefford, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Woodrum and Mefford then grabbed more cell phone cases and ran when the employee told them he was calling security, the report said.

Police caught up with the two men. While being arrested inside the mall, Mefford didn’t follow commands and threatened the officer and his family, the report said.

Woodrum, 8718 Hosta Way, and Mefford, 6337 River Valley Way, were arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. Woodrum was released on $3,300 bond. Mefford was held on $7,500 bond.
