Year-long road closure begins today

Beginning today, a road west of Franklin will close for up to a year as it is rebuilt and improved.

County Road 200N is set to close today for road improvements and the replacement of a bridge over Youngs Creek, a Johnson County Highway Department news release said.

The section of County Road 200N between State Road 144 and Centerline Road will be closed as the road is rebuilt and widened, the intersection at State Road 144 is realigned and a bridge over Youngs Creek is raised. The $4.5 million project is being funded by a $3.6 million federal grant, with Johnson County paying for the remaining $900,000.

Utility relocation work will begin with road construction set to begin June 11, the news release said.

The road has had a large increase in traffic the past decade, going from 700 drivers using the road every day in 2004 to 2,000 now. The low-lying bridge over Youngs Creek has flooded during periods of heavy rain.
