Local unemployment up in May

The county’s unemployment rate went up last month.

In May, the unemployment rate in Johnson County was 2.7 percent, with about 2,200 people out of work, according to data from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The rate is up from April, when the county’s unemployment rate was 2.5 percent. The percent is the same as last year, when 2.7 percent of workers — or nearly 2,200 people — were unemployed, according to the state data.

Statewide, the May unemployment rate of 3.2 percent is up from a rate of 2.9 percent in April. Last year the unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in May, according to state data.
