Home sales rise in Johnson County

Johnson County had one of the highest increases in central Indiana in home sales last month.

Local home sales in May increased by 26 percent from the same time last year, according to data from F.C. Tucker Co., an Indianapolis area real estate firm. Johnson County had the second largest increase among central Indiana counties.

Among all central Indiana counties, home sales in May increased by nearly 8 percent, according to the release.

For the year so far, local home sales are up 11 percent compared to the same time in 2017. The number of homes sold in central Indiana counties last month is up 5 percent compared to the same time last year, the news release said.

The price homes are selling for also continues to increase, while the number of homes available to buy decreases.

On average, homebuyers paid nearly $210,000 for a home this year, compared to an average price of about $200,000 through the same time last year, an increase of nearly 5 percent.

The average home price for all of central Indiana rose by about 9 percent from $192,000 to $209,000 when comparing the first five months of each year, according to the release.

The number of homes available for sale has also continued to drop.

In Johnson County, potential homebuyers had nearly 3 percent fewer homes to choose from compared to the same time last year, and homebuyers in the central Indiana area had their options drop by nearly 15 percent, the release said.
