What to do today: Fireworks, 5K

If you’re looking for something to do today, plenty of holiday festivities will be going on.

You can catch a fireworks show tonight, run a 5K this morning and take the kids out to play.

Here is a look at what’s going on today:

Franklin Sparkler Sprint 5K

If you want to start your day with a run, head to Province Park in Franklin for a 5K.

Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., and you can sign up today for $20.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m.

Edinburgh Firecracker Festival

If the kids want to get out, take them to the Edinburgh Sports Complex, 722 Eisenhower Drive, for an afternoon of activities and a fireworks display in the evening.

From 5 to 9 p.m., you can listen to live music and get involved in kids activities, including a home run derby and water balloon fight.

The fireworks display begins at dusk.

Downtown Freedom Fest

Want to catch central Indiana’s largest fireworks display? Head downtown to the Indiana War Memorial grounds, at 431 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, for the display, and go early to catch some music, food and face painting for the kids.

Local party band Lemon Wheel will perform and you can check out unique products from local artisans at the Indiana Originals Marketplace. Head to the kids zone for bowling, bounce houses, face painting and more. And visit the food trucks and a special beer garden dedicated to Hoosier brewing.

Fireworks will start about 10 p.m., synchronized to the official fireworks soundtrack you can tune into at B105.7, 97.1 HANK FM or 93.1 WIBC.
