City grant to help fund work to downtown building

The city of Greenwood will provide a $12,700 grant to make improvements to a historic building downtown.

The total cost of the project at 200 W. Main Street is $25,400, said Chad Mertz of Hiron, which handles public relations for the city. Building owner Eric Risk, a local attorney, will pay half. The plan is to add modern LED signage, three window tenant graphics, new address letters and a decorative rose beam.

The city funds the G.R.O.W. (Granting Revitalization and Opportunity for the Workplace) initiative, which offers matching grants to business and property owners to beautify buildings throughout the city.

This building houses several offices, including law firms. Previous G.R.O.W. grants have been awarded to Planetary Brewing Company, Grafton Peek Catering, Board and Brush, Sugar Threads Boutique and Storm Chiropractic Clinic.
