Stephen Lee Cobb, 79, passed away on October 9, 2018 at the Skilled Nursing Facility in the Compass Park Medical Center, Franklin, Indiana.

He was born in Evanston, Illinois to Horace and Ruth (Foote) Cobb. He graduated from University High School in Bloomington, Indiana. In June of 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Bridwell in the First Baptist Church.

Always industrious, Steve had an insatiable curiosity and a keen mind for problem solving from an early age. Tinkering with electronics and automobiles he developed a knack for understanding how things worked, he rebuilt a Model T Ford at age 13 and constructed a refrigerator for a high school science fair project. Steve and Judy married young and had two children, Elizabeth Ann and Stephen William. A 1966 Graduate of IU Business School, he held as many as three jobs to support his young family while attending school.

Steve was a Director of Real Estate for Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) for twenty years. He received his MAI (Member of the Appraisal Institute) designation in November 1979. He formed RPE/Cobb & Associates, a full service professional real estate appraisal firm in Greenwood in 1982. In addition to the job of running RPE/Cobb Assoc., Steve was a small business owner of many other enterprises including several duplex rentals, Soap & Sun in Martinsville, and with his son Steve, C & C Self Storage in Greenwood, and Suncatcher in Franklin.

From his youth, Steve had a deep, abiding love of the outdoors. Over the years he enjoyed hunts throughout Indiana as well as the western states. Steve also loved fishing local lakes and streams and spent many years fishing off the Florida gulf coast and deep sea fishing in Hawaii. He loved being on the water and spent years enjoying sailing and various boating watercraft throughout his adult life. He was happy on the water regardless of the type of the boat.

Golf was another activity that reflected his delight in nature as well as time spent with good friends. Through his membership in the Indiana Seniors Golf Association, he competed in many tournaments at beautiful golf courses throughout Indiana. His favorite course was at the Hillview Golf Club in Franklin where they bought their home in 1994. He was the President of the Hillview Country Club from 2004 thru 2006. When he could no longer play or ride along with his golfing buddies due to progressing dementia, Steve continued to enjoy watching golfers from his deck.

Above all else, Steve adored his family. Steve and Judy visited their daughter Elizabeth and her family many times on Maui and enjoyed spending time with their son Steve and his family at Sweetwater Lake. Through the years he took many memorable trips with his children and grandkids. He spent time each spring fishing in Florida and taking various vacations over the years with his family. Steve and Judy also liked socializing with dear friends, traveling, and were avid enthusiasts of IU and Colts sports teams. Other activities he pursued were sampling fine wines or vintage whiskey and pairing them with favorite foods. He also enjoyed movies and loved reading. Steve was a cut up and fun loving guy to all who knew and loved him. Although Steve’s memory failed him in his final years, his love of life, kindness, gentle spirit and the twinkle in his eye never did.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Judy A. Cobb of Franklin, his two children: Elizabeth (Randall) Yee of Maui and Stephen W. (Michelle) of Greenwood. Steve had six grandchildren: Tiffany Yee (Mike) Langlois of Vancouver, Washington, Nolan Yee of San Francisco, California, Cameron Yee of Redwood City, California, Larissa Yee of Kula, Hawaii, and Arlie Cobb and William Cobb both of Greenwood, Indiana. He is also survived by his three sisters: Judy (Gene) Hedrick, Kathy (Stephen) Briscoe, Terry (Nick) Watson, and many extended family members who love him deeply as well.

A memorial service will be held with a scattering of ashes at a later date. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Steve’s family is especially grateful to the wonderful caregivers and staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility in the Compass Park Medical Center, Franklin, Indiana for their loving care of him. Special thanks also go to Heritage Hospice for the additional comfort and support they provided.
