One Click acquired by FGX International

A Greenwood-based tech company and online retailer is now part of a multinational corporation.

One Click Ventures, which sells prescription and non-prescription glasses and sunglasses, announced Tuesday that it has been acquired by FGX International.

One Click will continue to operate as a standalone business and maintain its existing operations in Greenwood, off Emerson Avenue on the north side of the city. The current owners will continue to lead those operations.

“Our team is thrilled to partner with FGX International,” One Click CEO Randy Stocklin said in a news release. “The combination of FGX International’s purchasing scale, sourcing capabilities, and resources — together with the team and brands we have built at One Click — will allow us to accelerate the progress of our mission of building the world’s most people-focused eyewear company. This partnership is a huge win-win for our dedicated team members and customers, and I couldn’t be more grateful to each of them.”

Randy and Angie Stocklin started the business in 2005 in their bedroom and grew it to about $10 million in annual revenue by the time they moved to Greenwood in 2012, and about $15 million this year.

In 2012, Greenwood offered the business $200,000 in incentives, and the state offered more than $1 million in payroll tax credits and hiring incentives. At the time, One Click promised to hire 109 employees by 2017, but did not meet that commitment. As of August, they had 78 employees.

The company narrowed its focus to just eyewear in 2013. Previously, it had sold a range of fashion products including scarves and purses.

FGX is a designer and marketer of nonprescription sunglasses, optical frames and reading glasses whose brands include Foster Grant and others. FGX’s corporate headquarters are in Smithfield, Rhode Island and the company also has offices in New York City, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada; as well as Italy, England, Mexico, Singapore and China.
