Greenwood man arrested after crashing into railroad control device

A Greenwood man was arrested Christmas night after he ran into a railroad control device with his car.

James R. Cutrell, 22, 3155 Meridian Meadows Road, was arrested on a charge of operating while under the influence after the single-vehicle car crash at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of County Line and Peterman roads.

When deputies arrived, they could smell an alcohol odor on Cutrell’s breath, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Cutrell was nervous and told police he was close to his house and asked several times if he was free to leave, deputies said.

Deputies performed three field sobriety tests on Cutrell, all of which he failed. His blood alcohol level was .227, according to the report, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital to be checked out before being taken to the Johnson County jail, where he is being held on $1,000 bond.
