NEW YEAR’S EVE IN PARIS, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Wild Geese Bookshop, 107 S. Water St., Franklin.

For families hoping to celebrate New Year’s Eve, it can be difficult trying to keep everyone up until the ball drops at midnight. So Wild Geese Bookshop will recognize the start of the new year a little early. Their party will sync to when midnight strikes in Paris, France — 6 p.m. local time.

Owner Tiffany Phillips has planned a New Year activity for the kids and a station where everyone can write down their resolutions. In an ode to the film "Midnight in Paris," in which a character meets writers from Jazz Age Paris, people are encouraged to dress as their favorite authors with a chance to win a prize.

The event is free, but RSVPs are appreciated.

STEP INTERVAL WORKOUT CLASS, 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 8, Greenwood Community Center, 100 Surina Way.

When people start making their New Year’s resolutions, getting in shape is usually at the top of the list. Start out your new fitness routine with a total-body workout that uses cardio and strength training to get the best out of your body.

The program uses simple step patterns and free weights focusing on upper body muscular endurance to work each part of your body. Using a raised platform to step up, down and around, you get the blood pumping while also adding strength.

A four-session pass is $16, while single sessions are $5. Space is limited. Contact Becky Munger at 317-250-6618 to reserve a bench.
