Girls basketball

Grizzly Cubs claim tourney title

Host Franklin won the Walt Raines Classic on Saturday, rolling past Greenfield-Central in the championship game, 50-29, behind 24 points from Hailee Robbins.

Kuryn Brunson scored 17 points in a 56-40 semifinal win over Terre Haute North, while Bayleigh Torrance added 14 points for the Grizzly Cubs (9-6).

Cougars edged by Panthers

Greenwood Christian came up just short in its holiday tournament finale against Park Tudor, falling by a 59-56 count on Saturday.

Izzy Reed had 21 points in defeat for the Cougars (9-6), while Alexis Mead had 15 and Savvanah Frye added 14.

Lancers fall in title game

Host Edinburgh suffered a 54-37 defeat in the championship game of the Johnson Memorial Health Holiday Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Boys Basketball

Warriors drop championship game

Whiteland got off to a slow start and never recovered in the championship game of the South Ripley holiday tournament on Saturday, taking a 60-51 loss to East Central.

Carter Crowe had 14 points in defeat for the Warriors (5-4), while Brennan Neal added 12.

Cougars fall in Monrovia final

Despite 16 points from Champ McCorkley, Greenwood Christian suffered a 65-41 loss to host Monrovia in the championship game of the unbeaten Bulldogs’ holiday tournament on Saturday, snapping a six-game win streak.

Swimming & diving

Trojans finish second at invite

Center Grove’s boys and girls each finished second at the Bloomington South Invitational on Saturday. The boys had 589 points and the girls totaled 558, both good for runner-up status behind Hamilton Southeastern.

Wrestling

Trojans perform well in Mishawaka

Center Grove had a trio of wrestlers finish in the top three of their respective weight classes at the Al Smith Wrestling Invitational in Mishawaka over the weekend.

Brayden Littell came out on top of the 120-pound division, while teammates Hayden Watson (113) and Peyton Pruett (160) each wound up finishing third. The Trojans wound up eighth in a stacked 32-team field.

Franklin College

Women’s basketball tops Finlandia

Bayleigh Walker scored 23 points and Franklin College used a 20-1 third-quarter run to pull away for a 65-51 victory against winless Finlandia in the third-place game of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament at DePauw on Saturday.

Brittney Ballard added 10 points for the Grizzlies (3-8).
