Johnson County tied for state’s 9th lowest unemployment rate

Johnson County’s unemployment rate now stands at 2.7 percent, lower than the state rate of 3.4 percent, third best in Central Indiana and tied for ninth best among the state’s 92 counties.

More than 80,000 Johnson County residents were employed as of December, with about 2,250 unemployed.

The statistics come from the December report released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The unemployment rate is lower than November’s rate of 3 percent, but an increase from December 2017, which was 2.5 percent.

In Central Indiana, Johnson County trails Boone and Hamilton counties, which have 2.5 and 2.6 unemployment rates, respectively.
