Man found dead outside Greenwood apartment

A 19-year-old man was found dead outside his Greenwood apartment early Friday morning, and the suspect is still on the loose.

Erion Dae Quan Mitchell, who lived at Honey Creek Apartments, off State Road 135 just south of Smith Valley Road, was shot to death, Greenwood Police said.

Police received several 911 calls around 2 a.m. from people in the area who said they heard gunshots. Mitchell was found on the sidewalk outside the common entry door leading to the apartment he shared with family in the 1600 block of Honey Lane, police said.

Homicide detectives are working the case, but have no leads on a shooter yet, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant police chief.

“Being as we don’t know who the suspect is or have any solid leads at this point, I can’t sit here and say that everyone is safe. But there’s nothing about this that would indicate that this was a random act,” he said.
