Indian Creek boys hold on at Greenwood

<p><strong>D</strong>epth, it seems, is overrated.</p><p>Indian Creek used just six players during Tuesday night’s boys basketball game at Greenwood, but that group had enough staying power to hold on down the stretch for a 50-42 victory.</p><p>“The fact that we’ve done it all year … I think the kids are used to it,” Indian Creek coach Drew Glentzer said of his team’s endurance. “Your body gets used to the wear and tear.”</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]Click here to purchase photos from this gallery<p>The Braves (14-6) got back-to-back buckets from Colby Marker to build a 45-34 cushion with 3:49 left in regulation before holding off a late charge from the Woodmen. Ian Raker’s third 3-pointer of the second half drew the home team to within 46-42 with 33.3 seconds remaining, but that was as close as it got.</p><p>Indian Creek made five of its six free throws in the fourth quarter and 15 of 17 for the game.</p><p>Glentzer credited Colby Marker, the lone bench player to see action for the Braves, with providing the team a spark while top scorer Jace Russell was hampered by foul trouble.</p><p>After falling into an early 6-0 hole, Indian Creek got back in the game with some help from the long ball. The Braves scored more than half of their first-half points from 3-point range, including makes from Zach Pugh and Marker during a 10-2 surge that sent the visitors into the break with a 22-17 edge after a low-scoring half.</p><p>“We had a bad start,” Glentzer said. “Offensively, we were not very good early, but I thought defensively, the whole first half we were pretty good.”</p><p>Mason Britt, who hit a pair of key 3s in the second half to help Indian Creek stretch its lead, had 12 points to lead a balanced effort. Pugh finished with 11 points, Marker 10, Xavier Ferris nine and Cooper Britt eight.</p><p>The Woodmen (9-12), also dealing with key health-related absences, got 12 points down low from Matthew Allen and nine from Raker.</p><p>Both teams wrap their regular seasons with road games Friday. Indian Creek travels to Indianapolis Washington, while the Woodmen are at New Palestine.</p>
