Letter: Legislators should look to solar subsidies to protect Indiana businesses

To the editor:

Purdue’s climate report released Feb. 19 projects that a warmer Indiana will lower residential energy demand 2.8 – 3.0 percent by 2050 and 3.2 – 3.5 percent by 2080, but commercial demand will increase 5.0 – 5.4 percent by 2050 and 5.2 – 5.4 percent by 2080.

That will affect almost everyone in Indiana. It will raise the cost of doing business. It may make Indiana manufacturers less competitive.

Maybe it is time that the legislature give some serious consideration to subsidizing solar collectors on the roofs or parking lots of commercial and manufacturing enterprises.
