JOHNSON COUNTY GARDEN CELEBRATION, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Johnson County fairgrounds, $2.

After a long, hard winter, it’s finally time to get outdoors and start getting your garden ready for the summer. Tending to existing plants, planning vegetable beds, envisioning new landscaping — there’s a lot of work to do.

Thankfully, the Johnson County Garden Club and Purdue Master Gardener program of Johnson County have you covered. The annual Garden Celebration brings together expert speakers, vendors and other gardening resources to make sure your plants find success this year. Food will be available to purchase, and seed packets and saplings will be given out while supplies last.

KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY, 11:30 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, the Mint, 40 N. Water St.

If you can’t make it to Churchill Downs for the festivities this weekend, the next best thing will be sipping mint juleps in Franklin’s own bourbon-forward bar.

The Mint, a classic whiskey and cocktail bar, will be serving up the Derby’s signature drink, as well as their full menu of spirits, beer and wine. Then settle in to watch the excitement of what’s known as the "greatest two minutes in sports" in the Run for the Roses.
