Baseball

Herron shines in Center Grove win

Junior pitcher Grant Herron pitched a one-hitter and drove in the game’s only run as Center Grove defeated visiting Lawrence North, 1-0. The Trojans (21-2, 12-1 MIC) have won 19 consecutive games.

Warriors earn conference road victory

Whiteland broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fourth inning on its way to a 6-0 win at Mooresville. Senior Luke Helton pitched a complete game for the Warriors, allowing three hits and striking out nine. 

Grizzly Cubs lose at Decatur Central

Decatur Central scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Franklin, 4-3. Senior shortstop Luke Miles hit a two-run homer for the Grizzly Cubs (12-9, 7-6 Mid-State).

Rebels sweep twinbill

Roncalli won both ends of its doubleheader with Heritage Christian, 5-1 and 7-0. Erik Hommel and Will Schoettle were the winning pitchers for the Rebels.

Softball

Trojans dominate on senior night

Center Grove defeated visiting Lawrence North, 10-1, as pitcher Abby Herbst threw a two-hitter and struck out 13 Wildcat batters. The win gave the Trojans the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title with a 7-0 mark. At the plate, the Trojans were led by freshman Lex Warner nearly hitting for the cycle with a single, double and her ninth home run of the season. Alexis Rudd and Brooke York had two hits apiece.

Whiteland downs Pioneers

Aniyah Haley belted a two-run home run and drove four runs in Whiteland’s 9-3 decision over Mooresville. Macy Cornelius, Trinity Borders, Haley Wilkerson and Jordan Smith added two hits apiece for the Warriors (13-13, 6-7 Mid-State). The winning pitcher for Whiteland was Delanie Gourley.

Quakers defeat Woodmen

Plainfield scored four runs in the top of the first inning and finished with 14 hits in a 12-5 win at Greenwood. The Woodmen received two hits apiece from Allison Hayes and Alexis Rees. 

Roncalli defeats Brebeuf Jesuit

Roncalli’s Amanda Prather had a big night at the plate with a grand slam and five RBIs overall as the Rebels breezed to a 13-1 decision over Brebeuf Jesuit. Pitcher Katie Hiatt picked up the win.

Boys golf

Whiteland downs Golden Bears

William Davis picked up medalist honors with a 39 for Whiteland as it defeated Shelbyville, 165-195. Other Warriors scores included Zach Ricketts (40) and Jacob Johnson (41).

Short leads Trojans over Mooresville

Peyton Short was medalist with a 36 to lead Center Grove past Mooresville, 149-181, at Hickory Stick. Also breaking 40 for the Trojans were Bryant Simulia with a 37, Sam Slaughter and Kyle Bachmann with 38s and Mitchel Sanders and Jonah Tracy with 39s.

Falcons get past Greenwood

Braxton Christie carded a 39 and Elijah Poe a 41 for Greenwood, but the Woodmen still fell short against Perry Meridian, 155-160. Trent Vislay added a 44 for Greenwood.

Lancers fall short against Martinsville

Bladen Hancock shot 36 for Edinburgh, but Martinsville downed the Lancers, 166-206.

Shepherd third at Indy Open

Center Grove graduate and Indiana University golfer Ethan Shepherd finished third at the Indiana PGA Indianapolis Open, which concluded Tuesday at Chatham Hills in Westfield.

Shepherd posted a two-round total of 70-68—138, three shots back of winner Jack Sparrow. Sean Rowen of Greenwood tied for 11th with a 143.

Football

Greenwood’s Wheatley signs with Grizzlies

Dylan Wheatley, a senior who has played fullback and defensive end at Greenwood, signed a letter of intent to play football at Franklin College in the fall.
