Rudd helps Wildcats advance to super regional

Northwestern softball won four of five games at the NCAA regionals, during which freshman catcher Jordyn Rudd, a Center Grove graduate and first team All-Big Ten selection, went 4 of 11 at the plate, including a home run, and scored five of her team’s runs.

CENTER GROVE

Purdue senior softball player Mallory Baker finished her career with seven base hits in five games as the Boilermakers competed in the National Invitational championships in Ames, Iowa. She finished the season with a .313 batting average and was second on the team in doubles (14) and home runs (7).

Grace College junior Sydney Abbott is one of 11 golfers named to the All-Crossroads League team, becoming the second player in the program’s four-year history to be honored.

IUPUI junior second baseman Mandy Dallas was named second team All-Horizon League softball team for a second straight year after leading the Jaguars with eight home runs and 31 RBIs.

Indianapolis softball ended its season at 49-17 after losses at Grand Valley State (Michigan) in the NCAA Division II super regional. Sophomore leadoff hitter Hanna Burris had a single in the first game, a 2-1 loss, and a single and steal in the season finale, a 4-2 setback.

Cincinnati freshman golfer Sam Jean is among the Bearcat athletes earning Topcats distinction with a 4.0 grade-point average this past semester as a mechanical engineering major.

Missouri junior Jacob Cantleberry pitched four innings of hitless relief, striking out eight in the 21st-ranked Tigers’ 5-4 loss to visiting Florida. Mizzou then lost, 2-1, to Mississippi in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament in Hoover, Alabama. Cantleberry worked two innings of middle relief, allowing five hits and taking the loss.

GREENWOOD

Anderson senior softball player Joslyn Leverett, a nursing major, was named to the All-HCAC academic team.

Bradley Rothaar, a freshman for Anderson’s men’s tennis team, was one of two Ravens players named All-HCAC honorable mention.

INDIAN CREEK

Kasey Wilhoit had two hits for Purdue in both losses to host Iowa State at the National Invitational championships in Ames, Iowa. The freshman center fielder finished third on the team in batting average (.322).

WHITELAND

Anderson baseball player Branton Sanders was one of 19 spring athletes to be named to the All-HCAC academic team. It is the third time Sanders, a business major, has earned the honor.

GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN

Krae Sparked pitched the first 7 1/3 innings for Franklin College in its 6-3 victory over Trinity (Texas) at the NCAA Division III baseball regional in Seguin, Texas. Sparks allowed four hits and struck out three.

RONCALLI

Franklin College first baseman Drew Naumovich finished his career at the NCAA Division III regional in Seguin, Texas. The Greenwood resident helped lead the Grizzlies’ five-game run by going 6 of 19 at the plate and scoring five runs.

Indiana pitcher Pauly Milto, a Greenwood resident, started the Hoosiers’ 4-2 loss to Iowa in the first game of the Big Ten tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. The senior pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and striking out three.
