Man pulls gun on Greenwood woman, chokes, spits on her

An Indianapolis man was arrested on six charges, including four possible felonies, after police said he choked a woman he was living with, spit in her face, pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Chad Bowman, 32, was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, intimidation, pointing a firearm, strangulation and two counts of battery. He is being held at the Johnson County jail on $14,300 bond.

While strangulation means the act of killing by squeezing the throat, Indiana law defines it as applying pressure to another person’s throat or obstructing their nose or mouth.

About midnight Wednesday, police were called to a home in the 800 block of Rosewood Drive, Greenwood. The victim had called 911 and told dispatchers she was hiding from Bowman, and was scared he was going to kill her, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

Police found Bowman in the basement of the house, sitting on a bed with a gun underneath him. He told police he did not know the gun was there, according to the report.

About an hour earlier, he was involved in an argument with the victim, whose house he was staying at, when Bowman became enraged and verbally and physically assaulted her, she told police.

Bowman told police he was tired of arguing so he came downstairs and went to sleep, the report said.

The victim said Bowman threw her to the ground and pulled a gun on her, saying he was going to shoot and kill her several times. He then spit in her face, according to the report.

Bowman followed her into her bedroom, put his hands around her neck, threw her up against her dresser and choked her, making it difficult for her to breathe, the report said.

She said Bowman threatened to kill her if she called police. She ran into her bathroom, where she hid, and waited an hour before calling police because she was scared, she said.

The victim had red marks on her neck and chest, a raspy voice, shaking hands, timidness and a stuttering voice, police said.

Bowman previously plead guilty to child molestation in April 2013, which classifies him a serious violent felon.
