Prosecutors reviewing charges in Greenwood shooting

Prosecutors on Wednesday revoked bond for the suspect in Monday’s fatal shooting in Greenwood.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause and plans to file charges in the case by the end of the day Friday, said Joe Villanueva, prosecutor.

Randy A. Sutt was arrested Monday after a short standoff with police in which he and officers exchanged gunfire multiple times. He was also arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness for aggressive driving causing serious bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.

Police responded to a report of a person shot about 10:30 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Legacy Blvd., in the Homecoming at University Park neighborhood.

Police arrived and surrounded the house. Sutt came out of the house armed with a gun, according to a news release. He and officers exchanged gunfire before he went back inside. Sutt then pointed the gun at officers through a side window of the house, and officers fired at him again, the news release said. He eventually surrendered.

Sutt has a criminal history, including a conviction for theft of a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license in Marion County, according to online court records.

Police found Cecelia Cooper Laverne Babcock, 55, of Greenwood, with a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital where she later died, Greenwood police said.
