Letter: Recognize and appreciate America’s civil servants

To the editor:

Indiana employs 74,696 Federal and Postal employees who provide vital services that benefit all of us every day. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have relied heavily on our Federal and Postal employees to keep our country running. They track biological threats and alert Americans to treacherous weather conditions, they process our tax refunds and stimulus payments, and much more.

Our Postal Service employees deliver medical supplies, stimulus checks and much more as their work environment has become increasingly risky. Recently, Indianapolis lost a mail carrier who was simply doing her job. If we think that these Federal career positions will serve us well if replaced with "for profit" private corporations, we may need to think again. These are positions that the public relies on for sanctity, security and accountability; inclusive to all the public.

I would ask that we all recognize and appreciate America’s civil servants for their dedication and contribution to America’s infrastructure.

Dee Johnson

Bargersville
