Gillard, Rowen in contention at Indiana Amateur

Rounds of 67 on Tuesday kept local products Noah Gillard and Sean Rowen in the title hunt heading into the final round of the Indiana Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Indianapolis.

Gillard had four birdies in an eight-hole stretch to bring his two-day total to 135, five under par and alone in second place just one stroke back of leader Austin Vukovits, who carded a second straight 67 Tuesday.

"I’ve been taking a lot of driving irons off the tee and trying not to make anything worse than bogey," Gillard said. "My plan tomorrow is to stay patient. All I could ask for heading to tomorrow was to be in contention."

Rowen, who entered the second round just four shots off the lead, kept pace with the leaders after dropping in four birdies on his first nine. He has sole possession of sixth place.

Other county players making the cut were Joshua Oldham of Greenwood (71-72—143, tied for 16th) and Zack Carrabine of Bargersville (73-75—148, tied for 37th). Locals coming up short of the cut line include Ethan Shepherd (79-75—154), Caleb Giles (81-80—161) and Jackson Williams (79-86—165).

Gillard will tee off with the final threesome at 11:09 a.m. today, with Rowen nine minutes ahead in the penultimate group.
